Merits and Demerits of Various Kinds of Golf Turf

Posted on February 28, 2014 at 3:34 pm

Golf is a game that has gained popularity all over the world. It has transcended from being just a pastime, to being a competitive game. One of the most amazing things about golf turf is it teaches one strategy, and this is one of the reasons you will find some of the corporate bigwigs enjoying a round of golf in their free time. If you want to join the league of the affluent by playing golf, you need to have some golfing grounds. One of the most essential things about a golfing ground is the golf. There are two choices for golfing grass, each with its own merits and demerits.

Natural Golf Turf

This is the most common type of Golf turf that is used in golfing arenas, such as country clubs.

• It has a really natural feel to it. The smell and the feel of natural grass are really tantalising, and send one off into a natural fantasy world.
• It is eco-friendly. The grass will support the life of all the organisms that live within the soil, and when it dries up, it can be degenerated into humus that will return nutrients to the soil.

• It requires a lot of maintenance
• It takes longer to mature.
• It is expensive to plant. There are special varieties of grass that are meant for golfing areas, and acquiring such is really expensive, not to mention the cost of buying fertilisers.

Artificial Golf Turf

Artificial turf has been modified for those that would like a little more realistic look of the grass, but do not necessarily want to handle all the responsibilities that come with the natural grass.

• Artificial grass is really stressing-free. All you need to do is get it installed and you can say goodbye to the hassles. You do not need to hire someone to maintain it, and neither will you have to maintain it yourself. It is all catered for.
• Artificial grass is really cheap to install. You do not need to buy the expensive grass or worry about buying sprinklers; neither will you need to dig into your pockets to buy fertiliser.

• Artificial grass looks really non-natural at times, especially when it has not been installed by a professional. It looks a bit too shiny, and this might have a really bad effect on the eyesight during really bright sunny days, making those playing to lose their focus.
• The plastic that is used in the making of artificial grass poses some really bad consequences for the environment. Plastic takes really long to decompose, and when left in the ground for long may affect the ecosystem balance.

With the issue of the golf turf settled, all that remains is getting a set of golf apparel and gear, calling in a couple friends, and enjoying a lovely game of golf. If you are getting the turf to start a golf club, you are assured that you will draw in clients by the dozen with the perfect turf. Remember to carry out regular maintenance practices to keep the turf looking pristine.
